How long the Vasari Corridor takes, and how long to allow

A gallery corridor in the Uffizi
The walk itself takes about 45 minutes by day and about 35 minutes on a Friday evening. The combined day ticket lets you into the Uffizi two hours before your corridor slot, and the museum reckons about 45 minutes to walk from the gallery entrance to the meeting point. On a guided tour with the corridor option, allow three and a half to four hours in all.

The walk: about 45 minutes, at the group’s pace

The corridor is about a kilometre, and the Uffizi puts the daytime walk at about 45 minutes. You do not set the pace. Groups of 25 move together with two members of staff, nobody may leave the group, and visitors may not linger. It is one way, Uffizi to Boboli, so there is no doubling back for a second look.

The two hours before it

The time on the combined ticket is the corridor time. The ticket lets you into the Uffizi two hours before it, and the museum says it takes about 45 minutes to walk from the gallery entrance to Room D19 on the first floor. Two hours sounds like a long time in a gallery. It is not, once you take the walk to the meeting point out of it.

Reviewers split on this. David Richard, from the United Kingdom, stayed in the Uffizi five hours and missed his corridor slot. Cynthia, from the United States, had been before and caught the highlights in time; a traveller from Hong Kong found two hours enough. John, from the United States, warned others that the slot is for the corridor, not the Uffizi.

A worked example

With a 1.00 pm slot you can enter the Uffizi from 11.00 am. Be at Room D19 by 12.55, and start making your way there well before half past twelve. Late means you lose the slot.

If you add the corridor to an Uffizi ticket

With a separate Uffizi ticket and the €20 supplement, the corridor slot must be at least two hours after your Uffizi slot, or you sign a form accepting less time in the gallery. It must be at least 30 minutes after in any case.

On a tour

The first two put the corridor in the title, but their from-price is the option without it. The tours are set side by side on guided tours.

After the corridor

You come out in the Boboli Gardens and staff walk the group to the Ammannati Courtyard of Palazzo Pitti, where there is a café and toilets. There is no way back into the Uffizi. If you left anything in the Uffizi cloakroom, add the walk back round by road, over the Ponte Vecchio, which is the one hidden cost in time on this visit; the full route is on what to bring. Boboli and Pitti need their own tickets.

On a Friday evening

The Friday corridor-only visit is shorter all round: arrive ten minutes early at the entrance by the Loggia dei Lanzi, walk for about 35 minutes, and leave through the Rondò di Bacco gate. There is no gallery visit on that ticket. The Friday dates.
